Former Governor Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania, the United States’ first Secretary of Homeland Security, will address attendees of a banquet at the Princeton Club of New York (15 West 43rd Street), reflecting upon the state of U.S.-Ukraine relations over the past two decades, as well as his thoughts on Ukraine’s present situation combating Russia’s military, economic, cyber and information warfare – or hybrid war. The banquet will follow a once-in-a-generation, full-day conference on September 17, 2016, presenting over two dozen key academic, media and governmental voices from the United States, Ukraine and Europe discussing the historical significance of Ukraine, as well as the country’s prospects towards becoming a full-fledged member of the Euro-Atlantic Community. The event entitled Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Modern Ukrainian State will feature four panel discussions and three highlight presentations dedicated to taking a fresh, critical look at topics such as Ukraine’s Distant and Recent Past, as well as carefully divining Ukraine’s Near and Further Future. As Russia’s continued covert and overt interventions in the affairs of other countries remains a topic on the U.S. campaign trail, this conference will provide much needed historical context for those unfamiliar with the 2-year land war still raging in Ukraine.
