Garry Kasparov:
"Russian companies aren't laying people off and some sectors are even hiring. It's the best sign that Kremlin Inc and its business elites don't believe that western sanctions will last. Why not? The latest example is Secretary of State John Kerry visiting his Russian counterpart Lavrov and Putin himself in Putin's favorite haunt of Sochi on Tuesday. Kerry talked about "frank talks" and "maintaining open lines of communication", while NATO and other agencies repeatedly show evidence of Russian forces & weapons flowing into Eastern Ukraine. And before his friendly visit to Putin, Kerry warned *Ukrainian* president Poroshenko not to use violence!
If Kerry is so eager to show respect for a brutal dictator who has invaded a European country and annexed its territory by force, he should remember that he speaks not only for himself. Kerry represents the United States and all its history and all its future. The world's most powerful democracy appeasing a dictator in this way is a shameful example for the rest of the free world and an inspiration to the other autocrats and thugs who do not fear American influence and power in the hands of those who are afraid to use it."
